Cutting, Creasing (and learning..)
Advancing the skills of our operators is a priority for us. This week that has taken the form of leading our team through some additional training in die-cutting and creasing.
At CMI we are able to deliver high quality die-cutting on both our Heidelberg GTP and clamshell and running this simple box through the platen was the perfect opportunity to learn new techniques, refresh existing knowledge and develop ability - ensuring that all operators are proficient on all machines in the print room.
What is die cutting?
Die-cutting is a process whereby a die is used to cut through a material - often paper or card - on a die press. It allows you to make an identical cut into material numerous times. For each job a die is custom made. This die is then pressed onto the material - making a cut into the surface.
For certain items - for example boxes and cartons - creases are required to enable you to bend or fold the material. To achieve this blunt blades are incorporated into the die which create an indentation in the material as opposed to cutting through it. Cutting and creasing at the same time gives a greater level of accuracy and precision.
The experience and technical skill of the operator in any print process is invaluable and encouraging the team to share and develop that amongst themselves is something we see as enormously important to us and hugely beneficial to our customers - keeping standards high matters to us all.
If you would be interested in talking to us about die-cutting or have a project you would like us to price out for you then please just get in touch - we are always very happy to have a chat..
Have a good week!
